The Past Whispers~~~

I know the laughter and the pain
Of times that will not come again.
-- Sara Teasdale

Memories are sometimes all we have left of someone we hold dear~
My sister and I spent many days,in the woods by grandpas house, I remember that old swing like it was yesterday.

Made of an old barn board, the rope frayed with age, where our feet had pushed off-the ground was rubbed and deeply grooved.
We would fly through the air laughter and screams of joy filled the woods, once Mary pushed me so far..I fell from the swing mid air..I hit the hard packed dirt with a thud,my heart felt like it had stopped.
Breathless I lay their it seemed forever, all the time Mary was crying ..saying "I killed my sissy"..

Finally I opened my eyes, she jumped back saying,"Thats not funny" I'll telling mama~
We never told mama then~
Years later we sat on mama's front porch,,and told mama~~
After school we would all meet there, play hide and seek~

The woods were our playground, homemade swing-and all~

In the woods we return to reason and faith. -- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Everything remembered is dear, touching and precious. The past
is safe, though we didn't know it at the time.
Remembering my "sissy Mary~ September.2.1943-January,19.2012

~Forever in my Heart~~

Nights of storm, days of mist, sad days when the sun shone in vain; old griefs and griefs not yet begun. -- Edward Thomas

Little Feather and Fawn~

On one of out trips LaMarr and I visited friends in "Gatlinburg"~
They own and operate,
"The Silver Galleon"view shop here
We had not visited in a while, so the visit was one I was looking forward to.
I love the Native American culture, and the Cedar Flute music by Carlos Nakia~
The shop is full of authentic native american arts.
I had not one doll in my collection that was created by a Native American, and I wanted one that was an original art~
I fell in love with Awinita
meaning "Fawn" (Cherokee).

This sweet baby feels like a real baby, Fawn has a cloth body, soft deerskin clothing, adorned with beads.
Beaded headband, white feather on leather strap.

"SHIKOBA" Native American name
Means "feather" in Choctaw.

Feather has real hair plaited, beautiful dark brown eyes with long lashes.
He is sucking his finger, with soft rosy lips.

Has silver jewerly, and soft deere skin clothing..
Both these dolls are OOAK..Dolls from my treasured doll collection.
They were created on the Cherokee Indian Reservation in Cherokee N/C.
By gifted Native American Cherokee artisians.

Tattered Hearts~

Raining and cold all week, tonight we have snow falling, the weather has been just nasty, a restful time after the busy holidays.
Spent the week sewing/rearranging my fabrics, while browsing Pinterest, my creative side just ran rampant.
These darling little hearts are so much fun to create~
Inside the hearts are scented crushed rose petals.
My 1st. heart I created.
I could become addicted to this~smile~
each one is Unique, old buttons, tea stained silk roses, rose scraps from a wedding dress,

The back fabric is a rose with sage ~

Using tattered vintage scraps.
I decided to "Ritz Dye" some of the trims..using a Petal Pink..next "perwinkle"~

Thunder in the Hollow~

Storming today, thunder rolling through the hollow, the old oak tree is shivering in the cold, not a leaf on her.
All the little creatures and I are ready for Spring.
The smoke on the mountains drifting down, the barn is invisable~

We are reminded of the days when the war was fought on this land, how many souls were lost here,on cold winter days long ago.

Once when LaMarr and I watched the smoke on the mountains he said," You can almost see the solders gathered here, around a fire trying to stay warm,
Today my memory strays of the days, I stayed on the old farm with my uncle Ed and Aunt Hazel, we would sat on the porch and watch the rain..when it thundered, Uncle Ed. would say,"God is angry today'~
So many years ago, but the mind remembers~

Home Sweet Home~

The house is getting a good cleaning as I put away Christmas decorations.
It is nice to add trinkets, colored bulbs all around, so nice to put it away, and get back to the "treasures" that mean so much.
The old chippendale roll top desk, I use to display my vintage writting pieces.

This vintage china powder box gift from LaMarr, I ordered a "Puff" I found at Victorian Trading Co, filled her with "Oscar De La Renta" dusting powder.

Trinkets and Treasures, A sweet tea booklet,a china cup from mother, silk pockets holding calling cards,

The vintage "purse: calling card holder,
A "Family Album" holding our photos over the years.
My home is my haven for peace and tranquility~
